• Medium, long, thick or double coats — great fit. These coats trap loose undercoat and knot easily, which is exactly what the two sides are for.

• Short coats — can help. It will lift some loose fur, but a dedicated short-coat shedding tool may suit better day to day.

• Severe or painful matting — not the right pick. Tight mats that resist gentle work are best handled by a professional groomer.

• Broken or sensitive skin — not suitable. Skip the affected area and check with your vet first.
